3 weeks old

How does the saying go? "Time flies when you are having fun?" Or should it be time flies when you are a sleep deprived parent of a newborn and a three year old? Well which ever it is, time has flown and even though we are sleep deprived, we are having fun as well!

It's hard to believe that Spencer has been with us for 3 weeks now. Sometimes it feels like longer, sometimes less. Thus far, he is a wonderful baby! Shaun and I are finding ourselves in some weird place where we are both seasoned veterans and first time parents at the same time. Spencer is somewhat of a mystery to us as he is requiring no heroic medical efforts and no crazy amount of worry. Shaun made a comment this weekend about not knowing what to do and what kind of timeline Spencer will follow for development. To this comment, I replied, why do you think I ordered a new copy of "What to Expect the First Year" book as I am clueless as well?!

Spencer has had two doctors appointments thus far and at both, she has stated that "he is perfect." Which we already knew. He was born at 8lb 4oz, went home from the hospital at 7lb, 13 oz and is now (ok a week ago) weighing in at 8lb 8oz. So not only did he gain back the weight, but has added on a little more and is solidly in the middle of the growth chart.

Spencer also had his first (and hopefully only) appointment with the audiologist last week. They did the OAE test in the hospital (that tests the ear function up to the inner ear) and he passed, which meant that according to their protocol, that is the only test he needs. However, I was thinking about it and realized that the OAE test does not test the auditory nerves, and that is where Brendan's issues are. So we got the ABR test ordered and done and the results were "beautiful auditory neural pathways!" Not that we had any cause for concern (other than this kid can sleep thru a very noisy big brother and dog), but it was more for us, we needed these results.

Here are a few Spencer photos from the last week.

This is the look I get when I'm not fast enough at getting the next "meal" ready for him. I get this look briefly and then it goes to the next photo :)

Starving!
